South West Regional Assembly: FCFA 15.2 Billion Endorsed For 2026

The budget was approved during the Assembly’s fourth Ordinary Session, on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 in Buea.

The South West Regional Assembly has adopted a balanced budget of FCFA 15,208,471,639 for the 2026 financial year. Presenting the budget, the President of the Assembly, Zacheus Bakoma Elango, stated that the allocations reflect the institution’s commitment to improving living conditions across the region. He explained that FCFA 5,702,333,913 has been earmarked for the delivery of basic social services, while FCFA 4,420,472,698 will support economic development and environmental protection initiatives. In addition, FCFA 466,413,000 has been allocated to promote citizenship, youth empowerment, sports and culture. Governance and local administration will receive FCFA 4,609,159,532 to enhance institutional performance and grassroots service delivery. The Assembly is also spearheading six investment projects financed by external partners. Among the major road infrastructure projects is the maintenance of the Tombel–Bangem road, including the installation of concrete bricks along steep slopes. The three-phase project, scheduled to run from 2026 to 2028, carries a total cost of FCFA 1.5 billion. Phase Two of the Mundemba–Toko– Dikome Balue–Three Corners Ekombe road project will be executed at a cost of FCFA 200 million. Meanwhile, under the second phase of funding from PROLOG, a total of FCFA 2.3 billion has been secured for several key infrastructure projects.
