Easter Sunday services held on April 5, 2026 across Cameroon with preachers revisiting the importance of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Following a series of Easter services held across the nation, prominent pastors of the Cameroon Baptist Convention (CBC) and other denominations have issued a unified message. The resurrection of Jesus Christ is not merely a religious tradition, but a transformative event that grants believers victory over death and a mandate for mission. From Bamenda to Yaounde, clergy members emphasized that the empty tomb serves as the ultimate evidence of a "living hope" that distinguishes Christianity from all other faiths.
The Essence Of Eternal Life
In Bamenda, Rev. Dr. Achu Luther set the tone by stating that Easter signifies that death no longer holds power over those who believe. He argued that the resurrection makes it "crystal clear" that Christianity is a personal relationship with Jesus rather than a formal religion, serving as a constant reminder of a better future and eternity with God.
This was echoed in the capital, Yaounde by Rev. Dr. Rudolf Banglis of Faith Baptist Church, Anguissa. Dr. Banglis outlined the significance of the resurrection through three primary symbols: A symbol of hope, affirming that death is not the final chapter of human life. A symbol of newness, setting the stage for a way of life and belief entirely different from the "old way." And a symbol of victory, demonstrating the triumph over death, a message encapsulated by the empty tomb.
Confidence For The Mission
At Nkolbisson’s Rehoboth Baptist Church, Yaounde, Rev. Pastor Joseph Ngwani focused on the practical empowerment the resurrection provides to the faithful in a message titled "Empowered by the Resurrection: Confidence for Our Mission." Drawing from the Gospel of Luke, he explained that the risen Christ provides a constant presence, divine promises, and spiritual provision.
"We do not walk this journey alone," Rev. Ngwani stated, noting that the resurrection is the foundation of confidence for the mission given to the church. He urged congregants to proclaim the gospel boldly, knowing they are equipped by the Holy Spirit and a Savior who is not absent, but alive and guiding them.
Impact On The Lives Of Men
Meanwhile, at Nkolnda Baptist Church, Yaounde, Rev. Pastor Pierre Essola preached on "The Facts, the Impact of the Resurrection on the Lives of Men." He provided a vivid contrast between the first witnesses at the tomb: the women driven by love and the guards stationed to prevent the resurrection. The Women driven by love to embalm the Lord were met by an angel who announced the good news and removed their fear. While the guards attempting to prevent the resurrection, fell down in terror when the evidence of the empty tomb was revealed.
Changed Status
Rev. Essola emphasized that this event changed the status of believers, who are now called "brothers" of Jesus. He concluded that this spiritual victory helps individuals "manage life so that life no longer manages us," providing a framework to resolve problems by entrusting them to God, who is capable of all things.
Across these diverse messages, the central theme remained consistent: the resurrection is the victory of life over death and the primary source of strength for the challenges of the modern world. By shifting the focus from "religion" to "relationship," the CBC clergy called upon their congregations to live with purpose and serve with boldness.
Easter marks the most hopeful and powerful moment in our history as Christians: the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It’s more than a spring tradition or a day filled with pastels and eggs. Easter is the celebration of God's promise fulfilled and the victory of life over death. It’s the heart of our faith, where sorrow turns to joy and death gives way to life. ...
