MTN Elite One: Colombe Reduces Leadership Gap

The defending champions are now three points behind leaders Unisport after their 3-1 victory over the Upper Nkam side yesterday in Yaounde.

Despite heavy rain that poured on most parts of the capital city yesterday afternoon, fans packed the Yaounde Omnisports Stadium to watch the highly anticipated Colombe–Unisport clash. The game, counting for Matchday 22 of the MTN Elite One Championship, had been described as a summit meeting between leaders Unisport of Upper Nkam and their closest chasers, defending champions Colombe Sportive of Dja and Lobo. Six points separated the teams before kick-off; by full time that margin had been cut to three thanks to Colombe’s 3-1 win over the Upper Nkam outfit. The match delivered on its billing, with the better team taking the victory and all the advantages that come with it. Colombe started brightly and took an early lead when Jude Enow found the net at the sixth minute. Unisport fought back, however, and levelled from the penalty spot when Achille Fokem converted in the 21st minute.
