Transparency in Public Finances: Regional Officials Acquire Skills

This is within the framework of a three-day capacity building workshop with Regional Delegates of public administrations in the North West and South West Regions that began on June 10, 2026.

Regional Delegates of public administrations in the North West and South West Regions who are both authorizing officers and vote holders of public finances will from this Friday, June 12, 2026 be expected to be more transparent, accountable and efficient in the management of public finances put at their disposal. This will be at the end of a capacity building workshop on the, “concepts of irregularity, mismanagement, damage and liability for mismanagement.” The capacity building workshop that runs from June 10- 12, 2026 in Bamenda is organized by the Supreme State Audit Office (CONSUPE). During the opening ceremony of the workshop, the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of the Supreme State Audit, Justice Mbah Acha Rose Fomundam explained the pertinence of the training. “We identified as we sent to the field that many voter holders, managers were not even aware of the basic laws governing them. As such, they did things according to the practices they met. Everything must be founded in the laws and regulations governing that institution.” She further stated that, “Some of them we realized were acts of ignorance of the law, some were out of negligence and others were just acts of disobedience. We have come to correct all these things.” The Minister further disclosed that, “Experience gathered through audit and oversight activities continue to reveal shortcomings in the application of regulatory provisions governing public finance management.” In the government architectural apparatus, Regional Delegates of public administrations play pivotal roles.
