South West: Authorities Brainstorm On Decentralisation

Buea (Fako) A two-day consulta­ tive regional workshop organized by the Ministry of Decentralization and Local Development brought to­ gether in Buea, stakeholders to ela­ borate a national strategy 2026- 2030. Cameroon is resolutely committed to fostering the natio­ nal decentralisation policy whose implementation started a couple of years ago with the putting in place of legislative and institutional fra­ meworks. Despite progress recor­ ded, the absence of a National Stra­ tegy on Decentralisation and Local Development was identified as a major setback for the implementa­ tion of the reform. It is against this backdrop that the Ministry of De­ centralization and Local Develop­ ment (MINDDEVEL), with the tech­ nical and financial support of PROLOG, organized 10 regional consultative workshops for Regio­ nal and Local Authorities, along­ side experts and civil society ac­ tors, to contribute significantly in the drawing up of the strategy. The objectives of the workshop were to engage a dialogue with different stakeholders on the importance of the strategy, identify major hiccups impeding the implementation of the decentralization policy as well as propose concrete actions to be taken to improve on it.
