2026 Commonwealth Games: Five Medals In Pocket

T he 2026 Commonwealth Games ended yesterday, August 2, 2026, in Glas­ gow, Scotland. Cameroon, re­ presented by 21 athletes, brought back home five me­ dals, an improvement from the three won in the 2022 edition in Birmingham. Richelle Soppi Mbella in the judo women’s +78kg bagged Cameroon’s last medal in the competition yes­ terday. After overcoming se­ veral tough opponents, the ju­ doka fell to Sydnee Andrews of New Zealand in the final to clinch silver. In the Judo men’s -100 kg, Franck Ulrick Tahman Zan won his bronze medal contest yesterday to bag ano­ ther precious metal for Came­ roon. Marie Céline Baba Matia also won a bronze medal in the -52kg after beating Aus­ tralia’s Tinka Easton in the se­ cond bronze-medal contest on July 31, 2026. Away from judo, Cedric Idriss Lekezo Azamdzi won a bronze medal in the men’s shot put F57 final on August 1, 2026. The Cameroonian para-athlete came third with a throw of 12.57 m. It should be recalled that Emmanuel Eseme was the first to open the medal page for Cameroon. The 32- year-old broke records in Glas­ gow when he won gold in the men’s 100m final in 9.83 se­ conds.
