Paul and Chantal Biya were yesterday August 20, 2026, treated to a distinctive reception from compatriots who massively turned out at the airport and along the streets of the capital city.
T hursday August 20, 2026 began in Came roon’s political capital city- Yaounde, as an ordinary day but ended in a hectic manner. As a matter of fact, the return of Came roon’s first couple, Paul and Chantal Biya, from a private stay in Europe, completely transformed the atmosphere of the city as anxiety and eu phoria enveloped the dwellers who took vantage positions to have a glimpse and heartily welcome them back home. The President of the Republic, Paul Biya, in the company of his wife, Mrs Chantal Biya, left the country on June 7, 2026, “For a brief private stay in Europe,” going by a press release from the Minister, Director of Civil Cabinet at the Pre sidency of the Republic, announcing the trip. So much water had gone under the bridge with social media animators saying just anything - The good, the bad and even the ugly. This cer tainly justifies the anxiety in his compatriots who massively came out to see and welcome the leader of the nation as he jetted back home. The atmosphere at the Yaounde Nsimalen In ternational airport was electric, with dance groups and supporters of President Paul Biya’s Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM), from Mefou and Afamba and Nyong and So’o Di visions as well as Active Youth for Madam Chantal Biya, animating. The intensity of the songs and their dance steps grew in momentum as the clock ticked. By 4:45 pm when the plane trans porting the first couple touched down at the Presidential section of the airport, the singing and dancing got to the apex. Meanwhile, at the foot of the aircraft to passionately welcome Paul and Chantal Biya home were the Prime Mi nister Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute and the Minister of State, Secretary General at the Presidency, Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh.
