Buea Road Network: Dire Need Of Rehabilitation

Residents in Buea, capital of the South West Region, are increasingly concerned about the deteriorating state of the town’s road network. Numerous potholes, eroded sections, muddy surfaces and poor drainage are making movement difficult for both motorists and pedestrians, causing damage to vehicles, especially during the rainy season. Mayor Street in Molyko is riddled with potholes, while the stretch from Buea Town through the Buea Central Market to Muea has become increasingly difficult to navigate. In Sand Pit, muddy conditions frequently disrupt traffic after heavy rainfall. The situation is also worrying along Buea’s main boulevard, where a large crater-like pothole has developed in front of the Cameroon General Certificate of Education Board’s office. The damaged section often causes traffic congestion as motorists struggle to pass. Bonduma Gate, Check Point and Mile 17 are also affected, while the Mile 17-Muea stretch continues to deteriorate. Poor drainage has further worsened the situation. During heavy rains, several road sections become flooded and muddy, accelerating the deterioration of already damaged surfaces. For motorists, the situation has become increasingly costly. According to a car owner, Ndah Benard Binda, his new car looks dilapidated due to the porous road state.
