Cameroon-U.S. Economic and Commercial Dialogue: Private Sector Investment Envisaged

Business stakeholders that met in Yaounde yesterday, August 27 for the maiden edition resolved to target sectors like Mining, Agriculture, technology, etc.
T he maiden edition of the Ca meroon–United States (U.S) Strategic Economic Dialogue that held yesterday August 27, 2026 in Yaounde marked a pivotal shift in bilateral relations, moving away from a traditional aid-focused framework toward trade, invest ment, and private-sector partner ships. Guided by Washington's trade diplomacy and Cameroon's National Development Strategy (SND30), both nations are prioritizing structu ral reforms to improve the local bu siness climate and scale up commer cial cooperation. Coming at a time when Cameroon seeks to capitalize on its subsoil wealth, the mining and mineral sec tor represents some primary target for the Cameroon-American forum. Discussions chaired by the Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regio nal Development, Alamine Ousmane Mey, were centred on the sustaina ble extraction of critical minerals, iron ore, bauxite, and gold. According to the Minister, securing and repa triating funds for the restoration of mining sites that would feature the legal, financial and institutional so lutions in this area is pivotal. This ap proach, the minister explained, in volves the Bank of Central African States (BEAC), the institution res ponsible for the common monetary policy. “Its successful outcome could contribute to a more positive percep tion of the business climate across the CEMAC region as a whole. This would help to attract even more in vestment into the mining sector,” Alamine Ousmane Mey said. Targeting key developmental areas like technology and innovation, mar ked by rising Artificial Intelligence (AI), actors from both countries are uniting all fronts to zero in on Fin Tech, digital financial infrastructure, and emerging technologies like AI. “We are keen to leverage the exper tise, technologies and innovation ca pabilities of US companies to har ness and manage risk development,&rdquo...
