2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifiers: Lions On Good Footing

T he fourth window of the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup African Qualifiers ended on Sunday, August 30, 2026. With just one window left, scheduled for February 2027, no team has yet secured one of Africa’s five available tickets. However, Ca­ meroon is in pole position to qualify for its maiden World Cup. Despite the loss to Guinea in their final game of Window 4, the Basketball Lions had done enough to remain top of Group E with 16 points, earned from seven wins and two defeats. Their first de­ feat came against Cabo Verde in their opening match of the first- round qualifiers. Since then, the Lions pressed every opponent hard until they were stop­ ped by Guinea (67–90) in the last game of the first-leg, second round qualifiers recently played in Rades, Tunisia. To be specific, these first-leg matches of the second round took place within the framework of the fourth window of the qualifiers. The event in Tunisia was expected to be difficult because, Cameroon faced both Tunisia and Nigeria. The Lions boldly took up the challenge, making clear their objective to put in the best and better their chances. Came­ roon first thrashed Nigeria (78–62) before beating Tunisia (83–61).
