Limbe Deep Seaport Project: PM Instructs Acceleration On Relaunch

Joseph Dion Ngute chaired an enlarged meeting on the subject yesterday June 18, 2026 at the Star Building.

In line with government’s structural transformation of the economy, particularly with the development of seaports, the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute, has instructed all relevant administrations to accelerate efforts geared towards the relaunch of the construction of the Limbe Deep Seaport. This was during an enlarged meeting he chaired yesterday June 18, 2026 which examined aspects related to feasibility studies, boundaries and social organs of the port project. The Limbe Deep Seaport, located in Fako Division of the South West Region, is projected to stimulate regional trade and supplement the port of Douala as a major gateway for hydrocarbons and agricultural produce. A Presidential decree of May 2020 revived the deep seaport project and expectations have been high in the region. Giving more insights on the meeting, the Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest Ngalle Bebehe said they were convened by the Prime Minister to examine the possibilities of implementing studies carried out for the construction of a deep sea port in Limbe. “After various presentations, we noted the strategic character of this project which has the same quality of the Ring-road. The PM instructed all relevant administration to get involved so that this strategic structure sees the light of day,” he said. Main actions identified include space delimitation which is already ongoing and the putting in place of social organs that give the port full operational capacity.
