Servant Leadership: US Fellowship Beneficiaries Hold Youth Conference

Over 500 youths attended the first ever Young African Leaders’ Initiative symposium on Friday, November 5, 2016 in Yaounde.

 

The United States government has in the last three years been organising the Mandela Washington Fellowship programme for young African leaders. Known as the Young African Leaders’ Initiative, YALI, the programme brings together young African professionals to top US Universities for exclusive leadership training. Today, ex-YALI fellows in Cameroon boast 48 members, with “Together everyone achieves more,” TEAM, as motto.  

In order to pass on the knowledge to other Cameroonians, the Mandela Washington Fellowship Cameroon Alumni on Saturday, November 5, 2016, held the first ever YALI Cameroon Impact National Symposium at the Yaounde Conference Centre. With theme, “Reaching new horizons through servant leadership,” it was attended by more than 500 young people from across the nation. Chongwain Christelle Bay epouse Nfor, President, Mandela Washington Fellowship Cameroon Alumni, said the purpose was to share experiences and discuss how to work together in promoting peace, prosperity and development.

“It was also to inform young people that it is time to take action and stop complaining. We expect young people to be engaged in tackling issues of radicalisation, violent extremism and job creation,” Christelle Bay noted.
