Obsequies: Academic Honours For Professor Bole Butake

Yesterday’s event was an occasion to reflect on the intellectual achievements of the late don who died in Yaounde on October 1, 2016.

 

It was with profound grief that the university community bade farewell to the late Professor Emeritus, Bole Butake, who died on October 1, 2016 at the Yaounde Teaching Hospital. Academic honours were held for him yesterday, November 10, 2016, in Amphitheatre 700 of the University of Yaounde 1. It was an occasion to reflect on the intellectual achievements and life of Professor Bole Butake and bid him farewell. The event took place in the presence of the Rector of the University of Yaounde 1, Professor Aurelien Sosso, a representative of the Minister of Higher Education, university dons, colleagues, students and mourners.

Professor Emeritus Tala Kashim said Professor Emeritus Butake’s life was an open book which all had to read. He said Butake was known by contemporaries and colleagues as a devoted educator, a seasoned academic, a primary vender, an astute literary critic and an award-winning playwright. He said Butake was a prolific and multidimensional writer. “He is rated among the most committed, most versatile and most accomplished Cameroonian writers.
