Physical Disability: Preparations Begin For African Conference

Organisers say it is to raise awareness on what physically-challenged people go through.

 

In spite of progress made in Cameroon and other parts of Africa in addressing the needs of physically-challenged people, they still find difficulties in contributing to the economic, social, political and cultural life of their communities. Involving disabled people in development remains a major concern as they still face discrimination in education, training and employment.

In order to try to address these challenges, “Handi Challenge for Africa,” a grouping of physically-challenged people, plans to launch an awareness campaign in Yaounde on Friday, December 2, 2016, at the Bois Saint Anastasie Park. The event is intended to coincide with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. At a press conference in the Djeuga Palace Hotel, Yaounde, on Friday, November 11, 2016, the President of “Handi Challenge for Africa,” Ndam Mougnutou Bachirou, explained the need for the campaign.
