2016 Women's AFCON: Sensational Lili

The Mascot of the Indomitable Lionesses was the major attraction at the Ominsports stadium on Saturday November 19 2016.

All roads led to the Omnisports Stadium in the Mfandena neighbourhood of Yaounde on Saturday November 19, 2016. Yaounde inhabitants and Cameroonians from all the regions of the country came out massively to support and encourage the Indomitable Lionesses. Thousands of spectators trooped to the stadium to watch the kick-off the 10^th Women AFCON.  At 10 a.m., a huge crowd could be seen at the esplanade of the stadium and the new parking lots were almost full.

Fans and supporters queued in front of the different gates of the stadium waiting anxiously to enter. Entry into the stadium however, was not that easy as police checks were tightened. Inside the stadium, rehearsals were already going on in all the different activities scheduled for the opening ceremony. The air camera on parachute could be seen flying in and around the stadium to intensify security checks.

Slowly but steadily, the 40,000 seats were filled with spectators who did not want to miss any part of the event. Two giant screens were equally erected opposite the Presidential Tribune. The major attraction was Lili the Mascot of the Lionesses. Her display won the hearts of many fans and supporters. Some fans said they went to the stadium to discover the famous Lili and some even took photographs of Lili. Spectators watched with enthusiasm a projection on the screens of the lion, mascot of the competition, deep in the savannah.
