Technological Agro-Industrial Park: Government Endorses Master Plan

The space-age plan was presented to the steering committee in Yaounde by the Mahindra Consulting Engineering, an Indian firm on Friday.

 

The first phase of the project to set up a Technological Agro-industrial Park, TAIP, in Cameroon consisting of the design of a Master Plan is ready, with experts glad at the fact that government has endorsed the futuristic game-changer strategy. Members of the pilot commit in charge of the follow-up of the project met in Yaounde on December 2, 2016, to finalise the nitty-gritties of the presentation from the Mahindra Consulting Engineering, an Indian firm.

The Master Plan, it was revealed, has two components. It contains an Industrial Park and a Research Centre. The Agro and Food Technology Cum Incubation Centre, AFRIC-TAIP, will be constructed in Nkoteng in the Upper Sanaga Division of the Centre Region. The FCFA 120 billion project on a 405 hectare piece of land is a Cameroon government project piloted by the Ministry of Mines, Industries and Technological Development with the support of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation, UNIDO.

UNIDO’s Bassel El Khatib said the project will have a direct effect on the economy, create wealth and jobs. He said they were ready for the second phase of the project that comprises finalising engineering plans for the construction and management of the structure as well as liaising with government ministries to start sourcing for funds.
