Cameroon-USA: Broad-based Partnership

Bilateral relations between Cameroon and the United States of America are solid with collaboration in multiple sectors. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1960, both parties have collaborated in strengthening these relations, especially in the health, regional security, human rights, trade, humanitarian assistance, and environmental protection domains. Cameroon plays a key role in regional stability and the United States is a partner in countering terrorism in the Lake Chad Basin and combating piracy in the Gulf of Guinea. It is thus within this framework to further enhance security ties between Cameroon and the United States that President Paul Biya on September 19, 2025 granted an audience to General Dagvin R. M. Anderson, Commander of US Africa Command.
As a testament to their commitment in promoting peace and security, the Head of State and the United Stated Air Force General discussed further partnering to address security threats in the Northern part of Cameroon, the Lake Chad Basin, and the Gulf of Guinea.
Besides security, the United States collaborates with the government and civil society organisations on issues that improve democracy and governance, particularly with regards to human rights and humanitarian concerns in the North West, South west, and Far North Regions. Statistics indicate that the United States has since 2001, provided nearly 1.7 billion US dollars as foreign assistance to Cameroon.
