ELECAM Passes Challenging Test

Elections Cameroon (ELECAM) has been at the fore front of all the stages of the electoral process.

Elections Cameroon (ELECAM), the independent body responsible for the organisation, management and supervision of all election and referendum operations in Cameroon, is gradually coming out tall from the October 7, 2018 presidential election.

The body is implementing for the first time the provisions of Law N° 2012/001 of 19 April 2012 relating to the Electoral Code amended and supplemented by Law N° 2012/017 of 21 December 2012 with regard to presidential election.

After the operation to recompile the electoral registers, ELECAM intensified the revision operation over the years until the October 7, 2018 presidential election in which its statistics indicate that over 6,600,192 Cameroonians were duly registered within the country and 19,356 abroad. Following the number of registered voters, ELECAM equally attributed 24,988 polling stations within the country and 66 polling stations abroad.

When the President of the Republic, Paul Biya called electors to the polls on July 9, 2018 for the October presidential election, 28 aspirants submitted nomination papers at the General Directorate of Elections at ELECAM.

The Electoral Board of ELECAM chaired by Enow Abrams Egbe examined the files and retained nine candidates for the presidential election.
