2018 WACON: Squandered Opportunity For Lionesses

Cameroon’s failure to reach the final of the competition was a missed target for the Lionesses who had as objective to win their first continental title.

Unbelievable but true! The failure of the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon to win the 2018 Total Women Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana came as a shock for many fans. In fact it was a missed target for the Lionesses who had as objective to win their first continental title. After losing at the final in 2016 at home against the Super Eagles of Nigeria the Indomitable Lionesses were out to break the myth in Ghana and win the trophy for the first time. The cup was within reach but the Lionesses still found it difficult to break the Super Eagle domination.

Actually, the Lionesses went to the competition full of confidence given the level of preparations by the players both in Cameroon and abroad. Before leaving the country for Accra, the objective was to win the trophy and qualify for the 2019 FIFA Women World Cup in France. Right from the start of the competition many had predicted victory for Cameroon. However, their dreams of winning the African cup were shattered when they lost to Nigeria 2-4 in the semi-finals after post match penalty kicks.
