Gendarmes Deploy Weapons-detection Van On Highway

Last weekend’s measure checked every vehicle entering Yaounde from Douala.

 

Security agencies in the country are stepping up the fight against insecurity by tightening the noose on any weapons traffickers. It is in this light that the National Gendarmerie on December 3, 2016, deployed a van equipped with a scan to detect contents of passing vehicles. The measure, which was introduced in the country recently, was a backup to the activities of road safety units.  

Stationed at Ngoung about 68 km from Yaounde on the Yaounde-Douala highway, the team was led by Lt. Col. Amboakwe Gaius, Deputy Director of Technical Services and Logistics at the National Gendarmerie Headquarters. He said the deployment was intended to screen all vehicles travelling to Yaounde to ensure that no weapons and explosives were taken in. Lt. Col. Amboakwe promised that the vans will be deployed on other highways in the country to ensure that criminals do not move dangerous weapons around.
