Speaking Skins: Hybrid Art Exhibition

The event took place in Dragage, Yaounde, on September 19, exploring the complexities of women’s lives, from moments of joy to depths of sorrow.

Art lovers united at “Au Comptoir des Arts” over the weekend to savour the finesse imbibed in fine Art’s display. Organized by the Multidisciplinary artist and cultural promoter, Jade Sl’amour, the week-long event highlighted the emotional mystery of nonverbal communication buried in ‘Body Art’. The exhibitor’s concept born out of Sl’amour’s participation in varied traditional craft in Bafia, laid the foundation for varied artist to convey numerous messages through paints. “The Speaking Skins’ exhibition seeks to promote the use of this underappreciated forms of art clung to our ancestral core and daily experiences to communicate our unspoken plight,” she revealed. Presenting significant messages of pain and torture engraved in the art, the session’s curator, Luis Ébene explained that; “The loud messages buried in the beautifully crafted portraits, likewise the inscriptions represented contemporary plights that denote traditional models of social plagues like domestic violence and hardship.”
