Of the 10 head coaches who guided representatives from the continent at the global expedition, only three are still in charge today.
T he 2026 World Cup is evidently playing extra time on the tech nical benches of several coun tries that took part in the event. Pre sently, seven of the 10 countries that represented Africa at the global ex pedition have parted ways with their coaches. Only three remain untou ched. The separations have been car ried out through dismissals, mutual agreements, contract expirations, or voluntary resignations to pursue new opportunities. The big news is that Hervé Renard re turns to Côte d’Ivoire as head coach, replacing Emarse Faé, whose contract was not renewed by the Ivo rian Football Federation. The football governing body made the announce ment on August 4, 2026. Renard is coming in for a second stint after lea ding the Elephants to their first Africa Cup of Nations title in 2015. He comes back to Côte d’Ivoire following a brief spell as Tunisia head coach. Tunisia began the recent round of technical changes when they dismis sed Sabri Lamouchi after a disastrous World Cup start. They had brought in Renard; his stay was short, and on July 28, 2026, Tunisia appointed Moïne Chaâbani as their new head coach. The Cabo Verdean Football Federa tion also announced on its Facebook page on August 4, 2026, that Bubista has relinquished his position as head coach of the senior national team.
